What is rehabilitation nursing?

Rehabilitation nursing is a philosophy of care, not a work setting or a phase of treatment.  Rehabilitation nurses base their practice on rehabilitative and restorative principles by:

        managing complex medical issues

        consulting with specialist

       providing ongoing patient education

       setting goals for maximal independence

   establishing plans of care to maintain optimal wellness

Rehabilitation nurses begin to work with individuals and their families soon after a disabling injury or chronic illness begins, and they continue to provide support after these individuals go home or return to work or school.

Rehabilitation nurses practice in all settings.

       hospitals and clinics

        comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation units

       sub-acute facilities

        long-term care facilities

        home healthcare agencies

        skilled nursing facilities

        private consulting firms

        community and governmental agencies

        health maintenance organizations

        schools and universities

        outpatient rehabilitation facilities

 Members of the Southeast Texas Chapter ARN come from 41 counties, including: Cherokee, Shelby, Nacogdoches, San Augustine, Sabine, Angelina, Houston, Trinity, Polk, Tyler, Jasper, Newt, Madison, Walker, San Jacinto, Orange, Jefferson, Grimes, Montgomery, Liberty, Washington, Hardin, Chambers, Harris, Waller, Fort Bend, Galveston, Brazoria, Austin, Colorado, Lavaca, Wharton, Matagorda, Jackson, Dewitt, Goliad, Calhoun, Refugio, Aransas, San Patricio, and Bee.  

Member Profile

            1.      RNs Voting Membership

Available to registered nurses concerned with or involved in the practice of rehabilitation nursing.  Voting members have access to all the programs and opportunities listed in about us and at ARN national website.

            2.      Other nurses and healthcare providers Nonvoting Membership

Available to other nurses, members of other healthcare disciplines and to all interested individuals.  Nonvoting members receive the benefits listed in about us and at ARN national website.

        Voting  privileges for chapter officers


Becoming a Member

There are two ways to become a member of Southeast Texas Chapter ARN:

        By Mail:

1.   You must be a member of the national organization to belong to the local chapter.  Obtain a membership application by clicking here, or calling 1-800-229-7530.

2.   Indicate Southeast Texas chapter at chapter name at the bottom of the form.

3.      Add $25 for the local chapter dues at the bottom of the form. 

        At an Educational Session or Meeting:

If you are a national ARN member already, just bring a check or money order for $25 to one of the educational sessions.  We will notify national that you are a member of the local chapter.
